Learn the Truth About Fish Oil
There are several types of Omega-3s: plant-based, algae-based and animal-based. Plant-based Omega-3 is normally ALA in the form of chia oil, which is very inexpensive and used in many foods as an additive. Animal-based Omega-3 supplements often involve the use of fish oil. Fish oil is produced from many sources but primarily from anchovies, sardines, tuna, squid, or in some cases the liver of cold water fish. Fish oils produced directly from fish flesh or fish livers are normally of higher quality and not exposed to spoilage.
Where the fish are caught is also an important factor to consider when purchasing fish-based Omega-3. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires pharmaceutical companies to identify and validate the source of their oils. Supplement producers are not held to the same standards. They can buy their oil from brokers far removed from the refineries that produce them, which means crude fish oil may originate from clean waters off the coast of Peru or Alaska or from the contaminated waters off of China. Oils from contaminated waters may contain a variety of toxic impurities that are difficult to remove or even find during testing.
When a nutritional product is made in a drug facility, the facility must follow strict rules with frequent inspections by the FDA to determine if the facility is following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). To remain compliant, the company must operate within standard procedures, test products using validated methods and provide costly training programs to its staff- such as manufacture of Oceanblue® line of Omega-3 products.
What’s In Oceanblue® Omega-3 2100?
Our modern diet is highly deficient in EPA and DHA. The only way to help people find a balance is to make sure their supplements contain a high concentration of Omega-3 in the form of purified EPA and DHA, which are the only known fatty acids to positively impact health from a clinical perspective.
Compare Oceanblue® with other Omega-3 supplements
|Oceanblue®||Prescription||Typical Fish Oil|
|Omega-3 per capsule||1,050 mg||900 mg||360 mg|
|EPA & DHA per capsule||975 mg||840 mg||300 mg|
|Percentage of Omega-3|
|Amount per serving needed||4||4||12|
There are hundreds and perhaps thousands of fish oil and Omega-3 brands. Because of this, picking an Omega-3 supplement isn’t easy. Labeling is confusing and purposefully misleading.
